* TEMPERATURE...Highs in the mid to upper 90s daily, with heat
indices reaching 105 to 110. The hottest conditions are
expected this afternoon and Saturday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Several days of heat indices of at least 105 degrees
could have a cumulative impact on some individuals, especially
those who spend a prolonged amount of time outdoors. The most
susceptible are the very young, the elderly, and those without
air conditioning, and anyone conducting strenuous outdoor
activities.
Also, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of
minutes. Never leave pets, children or the elderly unattended in
parked vehicles. The extended period of high heat and humidity
will worsen the effects of heat stress.
Take extra precautions, if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
