Camp Frenzy: Logansport gears up for exciting year

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Logansport Berries football team is underway with summer training. The team won their sectional championship last year but fell short in terms of wins.

Coming off a 6-7 season the berries hope to improve their record with all the young talent they have.

Head Football Coach Mike Johnson told Sports 18 the team has more to give than what they showed this past season.

To make sure the Berries start the season as well as they finished Johnson came up with a grueling training regime for the team.

Players were at weights 4 days a week, practices took place later that day after weight training, and Johnson even threw in some scrimmages with other local schools.

He said this year people can expect big things out of his football team, especially with all the young talent they have.

Johnson said they had a group of seniors last year who mainly made up the linemen. He said right now they have a lot of underclassmen that stepped up last year and played in a number of games.

Johnson said, “Our sophomores are now juniors and really that was a good group for us. We only have five seniors this season so we got to rely on that underclassmen talent to kind of get us going. So, like I said we had a really great group of seniors that gave us a lot of leadership, they’re gone now, but we feel that our younger guys played enough last year ad got enough reps that they’re ready to go, and ready to play well.”

The Berries are looking forward to being back under the lights on Friday nights, and playing the game they love.
