...AN AIR QUALITY ALERT HAS BEEN DECLARED...

The officials at the Indiana Department of Environmental Resources
have declared an Air Quality Alert for...

Monday...May 29 for the following Indiana counties...

Carroll, Tippecanoe, Howard, Boone, Hamilton, Madison, Delaware,
Hendricks, Marion, Vigo, Shelby, Brown, and Bartholomew...

Ozone levels are expected to be in the Orange or Unhealthy for
Sensitive Groups range. Active children and adults, and people
with respiratory disease, such as asthma should limit prolonged
outdoor exposure.

Here are some recommended actions that the public can take to reduce
ozone forming emissions:

* Walk, bike, carpool or use public transportation.
* Avoid using the drive-through and combine errands into one trip.
* Avoid refueling your vehicle or using gasoline-powered lawn
equipment until after 7pm.
* Turn off your engine when idling for more than 30 seconds.
* Conserve energy by turning off lights or setting the air
conditioner to 75 degrees or above.

TSC Comes to tentative agreement With Teachers Union

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)-The Tippecanoe School Corporation has come to a tentative agreement with the teachers union on their contracts for the next two years.

Due to a stipulation in the Indiana State Budget all teachers in the state of Indiana must have a starting salary of $40,000 a year.

Superintendent for TSC Scott Hanback says a couple of years ago TSC raised teachers starting salaries to the $40,000 mark.

So now, with new money from the state legislature, the school corporation will be able to raise teachers' starting pay even more.

"We were able to add on top of that so our starting teacher salary next year will be close $44,000 and then just over $46,000 dollars the second year of this contract," said Hanback.  

The Tippecanoe Education Association President Mary Eisert in a statement said "TEA is very pleased with the new monies allocated by the state and the tentative agreement with the school corporation. "
