joining us. 3 again and again in tippecanoe county, neighbors are waking up to find their cars broken into.according to the tippecanoe county sheriff's office, break-ins have been on the rise since late august. yesterday was the second time in two weeks the sheriffs office has put out an alert on social media.news 18's micah upshaw spoke with people in the neighborhood most recently affected. 3< micah: car door slightly opened just like this.this is how david gray and many residents in the watkins glen neighborhood found their vehicle the morning after a series of break- ins.david: i went over and opened up the car door and our console had been gone through and there were several things in there that had coins in them and they didn't bother to take the coins.micah stand-up: with these recent car break-ins the sheriff's office reports that many of these residents didn't have their car doors locked. and that's been the case across the county.david: we are very good about locking our car but that night, it was unfortunate, we had forgotten to lock it and somebody got into it and they've hit several of our neighbors. micah: gray says nothing appears to be stolen from his car.sabrena sweet who lives just down the street thinks her security cameras may have helped her.sabrena: we lock the cars at night and we have cameras and stuff so hopefully that deters people.micah: sweet's car was untouched but her next door neighbor's car was broken in to. it worries her.sabrena: just worry about keeping your garage door opener in your car so i think that's probably the scariest part of it.micah: tippecanoe county captain woody ricks says handguns and garage openers could be a hot commodity for those breaking into cars.captain ricks reports along with at least a dozen car break-ins two homes were broken in as well.david: we just have to be very vigilant and watch out for the neighbors and care for them. you know, if they'e going to be gone, keep an eye on their place and keep everything locked up at nightmicah: in tippecanoe county micah upshaw, news 18.> 3 the tippecanoe county sheriff's office is requesting the community report any suspicious behavior. 3 a lafayette woman
