news 18's marvin bills spoke with members of the department today on their efforts to crack down on this problem. 3< marvin bills: "the clinton county sheriff's office is targeting state road 26 in an effort to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities with increased traffic enforcement. although in doing so they've run into other things." rich kelly: "you're connecting two metropolitan cities.kokomo and lafayette." since 2007 there have been 10 fatalities on state road 26. with heightened patrols, there have been zero this year. clinton county sheriff rich kelly says the goal is get traffic under control.rich kelly: "it is a high lume of traffic on that roadway." while increasing police presence, deputies have run into other revelations. rich kelly: "for those traffic stops when they occur it's not just a speeding ticket." there have been multiple arrests due to possession of marijuana. recently two people were arrested for possession of cocaine.deputy jon greiner patrols state road 26 often and says it can be a problem. jon greiner: "it's a ripe environment sometimes for criminal activity." greiner says often times he has made traffic stops and discovered more than just a traffic violation.jon greiner: "out of basic traffic enforcement sometimes we do get some sort of narcotics or drug arrest." because of the high police presence sheriff kelly says it's harder for drivers to get away with illegal drugs. sheriff rich kelly: "they are looking beyond just the traffic stops and making sure that they are following all of the laws. not just traffic. but the criminal laws as well." with the help of other local agencies sheriff kelly says the goal is to continue decreasing fatal accidents on state road 26 along with criminal activity.marvin: "the sheriff says they hope introduce k-9's in the next couple of months to help with their efforts. in clinton county, marvin bills news 18."> 3
