us. i'm trevor peters. 3 happening right now- united steelworkers are casting their votes to ratify a new contract with arconic.usw members have been rallying against contract changes since may.today they will vote to either accept or reject the new agreement.news 18's isabella caruso spent the morning at the local union to talk to united steelworker members.isabella what are their thoughts on voting today? 3trevor i spoke with usw local 115's president about today's vote.he told me there's a 50/50 chance on how the vote will turn out because there's enough people supporting both sides.but all the usw members i've spoken to here today have told me they're not happy with the contract.one person walked outside the union after voting with his arm out showing a thumbs down in the air. he looked at me and said "nope. not voting for that." 3 as we previously reported, the change to arconic's contract with usw has caused quite an uproar.usw members have been on strike and rallying for months now. arconic is demanding cuts in medical and drug benefits and increasing employee health care contributions.the proposal reduces premiums for single employees but increases family premiums by $120 per month.arconic also wants to freeze benefits under the current hourly pension and replace them with age-based contributions to the 401(k) savings plan.tabari brown has been in usw and worked for arconic for five years.brown says he doesn't want a work stoppage, but he's prepared for one. 3<i have been putting away since they told us i think about october of last year. so i've been putting little stuff to the side just in case. > all the master locations are voting across the country today.that's around 3500 people total. 3voting will go until 8:00 p.m. i'm told we should know the results around 10:00 p.m. tonight.news 18 will share the latest updates on that vote on air tonight and on our website wlfi dot com.reporting in lafayette, isabella caruso news
