3 winning on the hardwood in indiana..it isn't easy..just ask david baxter ..in his first three years as a head coach ..he won a total of six games in regular season play.. the tides have turned for coach baxter..now in his ninth year at benton central..the bison playing for a regional championship saturday evening.. <david baxter: you ever heard that story about the lion on the african plains? alright. you guys are lionesses. let's do this> david baxter and the benton central bison aka the lionesses looking to advance to semistate for the first time since 2013.b-c facing regional host danville.the warriors came to play ... maddie patterson gets the shot to drop ..danville led 19-6 at one point in the second frame. but the bison charge on back .. emma fisher no good on the jumper but audrey strawsma is there to clean up the miss .. benton central trailed by just one at the half.and that momentum carrying over to the third ..strawsma too strong .. no worries kelsey coffman the rebound and putback .. part of a 20-2 run.moments later .. coffman finds strawsma for the bucket .. the junior led the bison with 13.40-32 in favor of baxter's bunch after three. move to the fourth ..strawsma is off the mark .. but kennedy tolen .. a freshman ..give her the and-one ..b-c's lead swelling to as many as a dozen ..all is well for dick atha and the bison fans.but danville not about to get blown out on its home floor .. peyton turner knocks down the three ...45-43 benton central ..baxter needs to cool down .. this one getting too close for comfort ..emma fisher .. the hero in the team's regional semifinal victory putting an end to the warriors' run .. fisher and strawsma combining to make six free throws..so now 51-47 .. final seconds .. the warriors need a prayer .. not going to happen ..benton central stuns danville 51-47 to capture a regional championship.the bison to clash with salem in semistate at jasper .. 3<emma fisher: we tried to stay together. we knew they were going to have momentum. i mean their home crowd was crazy. i think i had dreams about this. i never thought i'd be here and with these people i couldn't imagine it. it's awesome.audrey strawsma: nobody takes a play off. everybody is coming out. everybody is working together. we all have a great connection. they comradery everybody -- we love each other. we love each other. we work hard. we pick up the mess whenever someone makes a mistake.david baxter: they never quit. they never say die. they compete.we got competitors not participants. they're not afraid to get out there and mix it up with kids that are strong, big and aggressive. we just continued to compete, put on our hard hats
