TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)—We all know the saying, "not all heroes wear capes" and for Amanda Balser, it's true. She's a Salute to Women honoree.
"We felt like it was a team effort with the health department," said Balser.
Amanda is the Executive Assistant for the Tippecanoe County Health Department. When the world was in the middle of a pandemic, fighting COVID-19, Amanda was on the frontlines.
"None of us had been through a pandemic so I guess it was hopefully making sure that we are making the right decisions," said Balser.
Amanda helped form a tireless team that continues to lead Tippecanoe County through the pandemic with policies, establishing temporary emergency shelters and setting up vaccination and testing sites.
"Making sure that every piece was put together in the puzzle," said Balser. "We just wanted to make sure that we weren't forgetting about something."
She's grateful that the team's efforts are being recognized.
"It was really tough a lot of people were upset at certain things," said Balser. "They thought you were doing too much, they didn't think you were doing enough so it's nice to know that people thought we actually did what we were supposed to."
The 47th Annual Salute To Women celebration is July 27th at the New Journey Farms in Lafayette. Doors open at 5:30. Click here for more information.
