WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)—Happy Halloween from Wolcott. The town's main street committee came up with the idea to decorate 10 mannequins on main street. The goal was to raise money for future community events.
"It's been very big, very good with the community," said Darwin Miller. "We've had people stop from Iowa, several people from Illinois to get pictures. They stop along the road and the kids will run out and get beside them and take pictures with the kids."
All of the mannequins are sponsored by local businesses in the area. Miller is the organizer and Vice President for Main Street Committee. He said this is the type of community fun everyone needs right now.
"They first said are you crazy, was the beginning and then they thought wow this could be fun and all of the businesses pretty much said they had a good time doing this," said Miller.
Marilyn Young is a local realtor in Wolcott she also serves on the main street committee. She said this year was huge turn out.
"We had people that were almost upset because they didn't get a mannequin to dress up," said Young.
Each mannequin was judged on its level of spookiness and the winner received a trophy. Young said it's something the town will definitely do next year.
"My husband had a really good idea, he didn't get involved this year but he's got a really good idea for next year but yes we are, we are going to be in competition next year," said Miller.
Wolcott's Main Street Committee said this is something it is possibly thinking about doing for Christmas. Wolcott is holding a Christmas Festival on December 5th. Click here for more information on that.
