WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)- West Lafayette will soon have a new off-leash dog park located inside Happy Hollow Park. The parks department said that every five years they put together a master plan. Part of that plan is asking the community what they would like to see. Community members were eager to see an off-leash dog park added to the community.
Kathy Lozano, Superintendent of the West Lafayette Parks Department, said this dog park will be different from the one across the river in Lafayette. The new park will not require people to have a fob or membership to use the park, which is different than Shamrock Dog Park.
“It's small and we feel that our citizens can be trusted to make sure their animals are well behaved,” said Lozano. “So we are going to try it this way on the honor system first."
The park will be located next to the parking lot down the hill from the main entrance at Happy Hollow. The park's department hopes to have the park open and ready for use by mid to late November of this year. Lozano says if they have problems with dogs not behaving or people misusing the park, they will re-evaluate or deal with them individually. She says if all goes well with the off-leash dog park at Happy Hollow, they will likely add another one at Cumberland Park.
