WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A West Lafayette man is suing Mayor John Dennis and the City of West Lafayette
According to court documents, Michael Bryant filed the lawsuit in the Tippecanoe Circuit Court last Wednesday. He is arguing that the city's mask mandate is unconstitutional.
According to Bryant's attorney, Arie Lipinski, they hope to obtain a preliminary injunction, preventing the enforcement of the mandate.
The case argues that public health guidance on the effectiveness of masks has been conflicted, and that there is not sufficient evidence to conclude that mask-wearing orders are an effective way to reducing the spread of COVID-19.
Within the lawsuit, Bryant claims there are less restrictive methods to stop the spread of the coronavirus which the West Lafayette City Council could adopt after a majority vote.
News 18 reached out to West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis. He was unable to comment at this time.
