WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- One West Lafayette art advocate is being recognized for his dedication to the arts.
Jim Bodenmiller of West Lafayette was given the Governor's Arts Award this month. He has served in a number of art programs and on committees in Tippecanoe County. He spent the last 45 years as a committee member for the Round the Fountain Art Fair. He was also a volunteer board member for the Tippecanoe Arts Federation since the late 90s.
Bodenmiller retired from his various roles earlier this year. He said he's honored to receive the award, especially for doing something he loves.
"The arts enrich our lives," said Bodenmiller. 'They nourish us in many ways. Nourish our souls, I think, they're so important."
He said this pandemic has brought him a new sense of appreciation for the arts.
"They have become very important, people recognize, whether it's performing arts or visual arts, it can be a very intricate part of our life," said Bodenmiller.
The award ceremony was canceled this month due to Covid-19. Bodenmiller will receive his physical award at the rescheduled ceremony in October 2021.
