WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- Five West Lafayette Police officers are ranking up thanks to a promotional ceremony Tuesday evening.
Sgt. Michael Brewer and Sgt. Troy Greene are now lieutenants.
Patrolmen Sanford Swanson Jr. and FN Lutz are now sergeants.
Lt. David Lord is now Capt. David Lord.
Chief Troy Harris said he and the department's merit board use factors like performance evaluations, longevity with the department and test scores to deem who is ready for a promotion.
Lt. Swanson and Lt. Brewer said it's humbling to be recognized and promoted for their work.
"It means a lot," said Sgt. Swanson Jr. "It means a tremendous amount of trust has been placed on me to lead the department in the future. I work along some great people and I just look forward to being able to put them first and to lead them from the front."
"It means a lot," said Sgt. Brewer. "It means the department and guys I work alongside have a lot of faith in me and confidence that I can help lead them."
Chief Harris said the process is typically rigorous and thorough.
Many officers had their families in attendance.
