LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- Charges have been officially filed for a man connected to the shooting and killing of a teen in November. The charge comes after a judge granted a 72-hour extension to file charges.
Alexander Isaiah Garcia-Johnson was charged on Tuesday with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
According to court documents, LPD officers responded to a call of several shots fired on Nov. 18. When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Jontae Billups-Brooks with one gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to Franciscan Health Lafayette East where he was later pronounced dead.
A woman who lives on Rubble Way told police she was woken up by a loud bang and saw Brooks on top of Alexander Garcia-Johnson.
Also according to court documents, Garcia-Johnson told police he was punched and kicked multiple times by a person named "Jonathan." Garcia-Johnson said another person "KeeKee" stole items from him. Garcia-Johnson admitted to being present at the residence and having a firearm at the apartment, according to prosecutors.
Police also learned of a second victim was identified as Keyonte, the brother of Jontae, who had left the scene. He was located and taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital with one gunshot wound to the arm.
