LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, one Lafayette church is using it as an opportunity to give back. Dozens of people were fed on Saturday thanks to Walk By Faith Outreach Church located at 2109 Jackson St. Lafayette, IN 47904.
"I was not always fortunate," said Pastor Chiffion Westfall of Walk By Faith Outreach Church. "I have not always had what I had regardless of what it looks like now, It was always something different."
Pastor Westfall is looking at this time of giving with gratitude. As the owner of Chiffion's Beauty Store and pastor of Walk By Faith Outreach Church, she said it's her faith that's helped her reach these milestones. Now she's choosing to provide for others.
"People are already having hard times, people are already falling down on their luck, people are already going through something so this is a time where I really feel that we could give back to those that are falling down," said Westfall.
Westfall said she buys the food using the money she makes from her business and several mothers in the church work together to prepare it.
For Annette Schneider, beyond the meal, it's the fellowship of the Thanksgiving event that she enjoys most.
"I'd like to be in my own home having family members and friends over to celebrate," said Schneider. "When you're in the homeless shelter, you got all different kinds of people who come from various backgrounds and it's scary."
While Westfall is providing food and comfort for those in need she's calling on the community to come together as well.
"How much would we do if all of us come together, not just feeding, praying, meeting, coming together with the meetings of the mind because there's so much going on in the world today," said Westfall.
The church will be giving away frozen, canned, and boxed Thanksgiving foods on Tuesday, Nov. 24. You can pick up the products anytime between 3:30 to 7 p.m.
