WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - The WLCSC Diversity, Equity and Inclusion task force gave an update to the school board at Monday's meeting.
They met twice in April and plan to meet twice in May as well. They have been able to come up with collaborative definitions for the terms diversity, equity, inclusion and culture.
As we previously reported, they started their work earlier this year to begin the long journey of improving diversity, equity and inclusion within the school corporation.
The students on the task force also met with high school teachers. They are working to create a new ethnic studies class for students.
WL CARE leader Ila Chaubey spoke during the audience comments part of the meeting. She wanted to know more about this new class and if it will be removed if not enough people sign up for the class, as is what happens with other courses that aren't popular to take among students. She also urged the board and the task force to continue to be transparent and to heed parent feedback more.
