LPD news conference on accidental officer shooting

Lafayette police will show the body camera video from the accidental shooting of Officer Lane Butler Friday morning as part of a scheduled news conference

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- Lafayette police will show the body camera video from the accidental shooting of Officer Lane Butler Friday morning as part of a scheduled news conference. 

Chief Patrick Flannelly will give an update to the investigation at 10 a.m. from Lafayette City Hall. Thursday, LPD held a shooting review board meeting to closely examine the evidence. We expect to learn more about what was discussed Friday morning.

Butler was shot in the back after fellow officer Aaron Wright's gun discharged on a call Tuesday morning. All three officers were wearing body cameras during the incident. Flannelly says because this isn't a criminal shooting investigation, the department will be able to release the footage during the news conference. 

“These are the most challenging of circumstances that I think any police department would ever face," Flannelly said. He added that he likes how his department is holding up.

Officer Butler remains in serious condition but is stable.
