WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Rolling out President Joe Biden's new vaccine mandate could be a challenge for local businesses, says a Purdue University expert in management.
Professor Brian Dineen says companies should consider a variety of factors, including paid time off to get the shot and bringing vaccine clinics to the workplace.
He says many companies were hesitant to enforce their own mandate. This new measure takes the onus off them.
Dineen compared it a group of parents watching their children playing at a park.
"You've been there about an hour and parents are starting to look at each other, like, Boy, who's going to leave first? And finally David's parents pull him away from the park and they take him home, and you're like, Hey, David left, so now we have to leave, too," he says. "So I think this is in some ways a story of companies being able to pass the buck and taking the onus off of companies to have to make this call themselves."
Dineen says companies should also plan how they'll communicate their policies and procedures to employees.
