LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) -- United Way of Greater Lafayette is looking to help young professionals learn how to become thriving local leaders. The organization will be hosting its Emerging Leaders United "Thrive at Five" networking event at The Spot Tavern in Lafayette on Thursday, Jul. 15 at 5 p.m. United Way leaders are encouraging people to come out and learn what the Emerging Leaders United group has to offer.
The group specifically focuses on helping young working professionals grow as leaders through volunteer work for local nonprofits. Organizers say this kind of outreach is a great way to not only experience personal growth but also benefit the community as a whole. It helps emerging professionals really get a hands-on experience seeing all the needs in the community.
Ebony Barrett-Kennedy, United Way's marketing, and engagement director said one of the best parts of all this is that they volunteer as a group.
"It's an opportunity to meet with other professionals in our area and learn about how they give back to the community and how that's influenced their ability to conduct their business and help with their personal growth," said Barrett-Kennedy.
She said being a part of this group is a benefit that will carry over into these young professionals' careers.
"It's an opportunity to connect with individuals in our community that care about our community and we all know that the only way that our community can continue to thrive and be strong is if we continue to strengthen those connections," said Barrett-Kennedy.
This event will include food and live performances.
