WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Hot Box Pizza and Copymat Services have confirmed they are leaving Chauncey Hill Mall as the building's future remains up in the air. This announcement comes two months after The Discount Den announced it's departure.
Hot Box Pizza said in a statement "We are planning on moving into the Hi-Vine building. We are currently in the beginning phases of the process but hope to make the move during this upcoming summer. We opened our Chauncey Hill store in July of 2005 so it is definitely with a heavy heart that we leave this location."
Copymat said they are moving to 20 North Salisbury in a building that sits behind Triple X. Copymat will be on the first floor.
Back in 2018, Chauncey Hill developers announced the mall would be torn down and replaced with new development. Almost two years later the mall still sits with many vacant spaces and no firm plans for the future.
"We did as much notification as we could to the business community about how this could impact their business," said West Lafayette Mayor, John Dennis.
It's starting to look empty at the Chauncey Hill Mall as two more businesses are saying their goodbyes.
"There is some degree of indecisiveness on the owners," said Dennis. "Their business plan has not yet been brought to fruition. So we are kind of in one of the positions of hurry up and wait moments."
Richard Abrahamson is the co-owner of Copymat Services, one of the first tenants to open business in the Chauncey Hill Mall way back in the early eighties.
"It's unfortunate," said Abrahamson. "This mall has been such a successful mall for so many years. I think it could still be successful even with aspect of redevelopment if maybe some things were handled a little bit differently."
Abrahamson said once a new location was secured the Copymat's move was right around the corner.
"You have to either decide to keep that next location or take the risk of okay maybe nothing will happen here for a year," said Abrahamson. "Maybe nothing will happen here for two years. Maybe something will happen in six months."
Abrahamson goes on to said that Copymat will be moving just a block away to 20 North Salisbury Street and while they'll be in a different location they'll still carry on the spirit of Chauncey Hill Mall.
"We're going to be handling business as normal and I hope everybody continues to come find us," said Abrahamson.
Abrahamson said they are hoping to move by the end of November.
