LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — More than 3,200 homes in Lafayette will have their trash pickup days changed as the Sanitation Department increases from seven to eight routes.
Beginning this winter, people who live in the Asher Street area will have their pickup days changed from Tuesday to Monday.
The city currently serves 22,000 homes and everyone who is impacted will be notified in January. The change will go into effect the first week of February.
Ron Berryman with the sanitation department said this will make the routes less stressful for their crews.
"We are trying to cut them down just a little bit to get them back in line with what they should be," said Berryman. "With all the annexation, they've gotten larger and now they are pushing it. We actually are doing too much. "
Trash crews for the City of Lafayette average 36 seconds at each house.
