PREVIOUS STORY:

CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Six cars of a Norfolk & Southern train were derailed in Rockfield, Indiana this morning. No injuries have been reported.

Police say at around 8:42 a.m. Thursday morning, a Norfolk Southern train traveling southbound from Chicago unexpectedly came off the tracks.

They believe that the train was traveling at around 23 miles per hour but have not yet determined the cause of the derailment.

A total of six cars were involved, three of which were empty. The others were open gondola cars.

One of these contained rolled steel and another was loaded with contaminated soil.

Police say that neither load was spilled and there is no danger or health risk from the loads at this time.

N&S Railroad personnel arrived at the scene and clean up crews are en route. The main rail is expected to be reopened soon and service is expected to remain uninterrupted.

The Tippecanoe County HAZMAT Team was there to assist along with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
