TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) — The Lafayette Police Department is one of many law enforcement groups in the area that make up the Tippecanoe County Traffic Safety Partnership. The focus this year will be on what is known as Thanksgiving Eve.

LPD is urging community members to have a plan to make it home safe this Thanksgiving. Their motto this year is "Make it to the Table: Don't Drink and Drive this Thanksgiving Eve." Lafayette Police Sgt. Will Carpenter said planning ahead will be key this week.

"We know that people are going to be getting together," he said. "We know that people are going to be partying and the festivity of the season, and get wrapped up into that so we're trying to get them to think ahead of time."

The county's Traffic Safety Partnership expresses one major theme for those who will be out-and-about in the coming weeks.

"If you know that you can't drive or think that you can't drive, please find another way," Carpenter added. "If you know of a family member or friend that shouldn't be driving, make sure that they have a safe way home."
