TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - Tippecanoe County has been awarded $577,090 from the Community Crossings grant for road construction. The county will use the money on three culverts south of Lafayette.
The Community Crossings grant is part of Next Level Roads. Over $100 million was given out to various communities across the state. Depending on population, a community is expected to match either 25% or 50% of the funds for a project. Tippecanoe County Highway Department Executive Director Stewart Kline says the Community Crossings grant can be especially helpful for smaller communities.
"So it's really good for the smaller communities because they don't have the access to large funded projects, so they can do smaller projects, less red tape involved," Kline said.
"Projects like repaving where you don't have a long lead time, a lot of design, you can get out and do it, really stretches their dollar."
Lafayette received over $300 thousand dollars and Battle Ground received $40 thousand dollars.
