LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — A Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Deputy is facing disciplinary charges after being accused of several incidents over the last few months. Deputy Lieutenant Randy Martin was accused of using excessive force from an incident on October 4, 2020. He was also accused of accessing evidence systems on multiple occasions for personal reasons without appropriate authorization. The two disciplinary charges appear to be unrelated.
According to documents from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, Martin used unnecessary force in spraying and tasing two people on October 4 of last year. In a second document, Martin's charges of misconduct are supplemented with accessing body camera footage in December without authorization.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Merit Board will be holding a public meeting on Monday and Tuesday, March 8 and 9. The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office is requesting Martin be fired.
