LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office is still investigating two men accused of trafficking drugs into the jail.
It started with a police chase in Lafayette Tuesday.
This video was captured by a viewer out on 18th street by Dollar General headed past Brady Lane around 5:45 Tuesday evening.
The sheriff's office said deputies tried to pull over the vehicle for suspected involvement in a narcotics trafficking investigation at jail.
However, the driver of the truck, Curtis Ricks, led deputies on a pursuit, and Ricks finally came to a stop near South Ninth Street.
The sheriff's office said he fought with the deputies, but they were able to arrest him.
Chief Deputy Terry Ruley said the jail has several ways they prevent trafficking.
Those include body scans, random cell shakedowns and narcotic detecting K-9 officers.
Ruley said it can still happen even with these preventative measures.
"If there's a will there's a way," Ruley said. "If they really want to get something in here, they'll figure out a way."
Ricks is facing multiple charges including auto theft, dealing methamphetamine and trafficking with an inmate.
A passenger in the truck, Chris Chadwell, was also arrested and charged with dealing and possession of methamphetamine, as well as trafficking with an inmate.
Ruley said they are expected to make their first court appearance Thursday.
