TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)-The Tippecanoe County Jail has confirmed that one inmate has tested positive for COVID-19
Tippecanoe County Sheriff Bob Goldsmith says that the inmate had a positive COVID-19 test come back on Monday.
The sheriff said that an inmate was released from jail and shortly after tested positive for the virus.
That individual let the jail know, and they tracked down his cellmate who ended up testing positive.
The sheriff says they went over 8 months without a single case so they are going to do everything they can to stop the spread among other inmates.
"We have over 450 inmates currently incarcerated here and we are doing everything we can," said Sheriff Bob Goldsmith. "We are disinfecting and everyone is wearing masks the inmates are also wearing masks we are doing everything we possibly can."
Sheriff Goldsmith says the person who tested positive is currently in isolation. At this time he says no one else has tested positive at the jail and no other inmates are showing symptoms.
