DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI)-The Delphi Community School Corporation has adopted its budget for the 2022 school year.
Along with that, the corporation has come to a tentative agreement with its teachers.
Teachers starting salary will now be $40,600 per year.
In the state budget legislators wrote in a stipulation that corporations had two years to get teachers' salaries up to the $40,000 a year threshold.
The Delphi Community School Corporation Superintendent Ann Marie Circle says, due to the extra funding they were able to decrease their class sizes.. and focus on learning loss due to the pandemic.
"We have a lot of state pressure we've got testing and assessments coming up and yet we are trying to move forward trying to cover those standards for that school year but yet we've got to look back at the things that they've missed," said Circle. "So you are trying to fill that gap and also go forward with the curriculum that's a lot of pressure on the teachers."
Circle says they have seen learning loss affecting kids in grade pre-k through 4th the most.
Reading and math seem to be the two subjects students are struggling with the most.
