LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Columbian Park Zoo is ready to open for the 2021 season. The park will be operating under standard spring hours this year. Masks will be required on the premises. The park will operate at full capacity, however, the staff will heavily encourage people to social distance while attending.
Visitors can expect a few new wild sights at the zoo. As we've previously reported, the zoo installed a penguin exhibit in 2019.
However, the pandemic delayed their official arrival until later this year.
Local resident Amanda Norris said she's excited to see the zoo open once again.
"t just promotes a sense of community. I mean, it's a great attraction to come to in the middle of Lafayette. It's something you wouldn't expect to be in a park. So, it just kinda pulls everybody, kids of all ages together."
Another resident Doug Coolman says the zoo holds a special place in the community.
"You know, I grew up here. Use to, as a kid, walk up here and go swimming. Play around in the swings and things like that. And brought my kids here when they were getting older. My grandkids also."
Gates are set to open 10 a.m. Saturday morning, April 17.
Additional information like membership prices can be found through the Columbian Park Zoo's official website.
