LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)-- A Lafayette man is given the Distinguished Hoosier Award for his support in teaching adult students.
Garrett Wilson has served as Lead Teacher and English Teacher at The Excel Center since 2016. The program is offered through Goodwill's tuition-free high school for adults.

Wilson teaches adults who have dropped out of high school but are now working toward their diploma. Wilson was honored by State Representative Sheila Klinker Thursday.
Wilson said he enjoys helping students achieve their own academic successes.
"Every day is a new day and we are really working towards making a big difference every single day with the students," said Wilson. "A traditional environment might not work the best for them so at the Excel Center we kind of give them what they need."
Wilson said the award came to him by surprise after his grandmother nominated him.
