CASS COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A man is now in custody after an officer observed bullets flying past his vehicle. According to Cass County Sherrif's Office, an officer who was observing traffic on State Road 25 near the Cass and Carrol County line, heard what he believed to be the sound of bullets passing by his vehicle.
The officer called for back up and took cover. After further investigation officers found three individuals on a property northeast of the intersection of County Road 500 South and County Road 575 West. The three were target shooting with a high powered gun determined to be an AK47 style firearm. The gun was being shot in the direction of the highway and did not have a proper backstop.

Police arrested 18-year-old Alexander Greene of Galveston Indiana. He was taken to the Cass County Jail and faces a felony charge of criminal recklessness with a firearm.
"This was not an active shooter situation. It was a case of a gun owner target practicing with a high power rifle without taking safety precautions and shooting towards a safety backstop," stated Sheriff Ed Schroder. "Please be responsible gun owners and ensure safe gun handling rules are followed."
