STOCKWELL, Ind. (WLFI) — A Stockwell man is in custody this morning after a three-hour stand-off with police. According to officials, it started around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night when county deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call in the 6000 block of Church Street in Stockwell.
When law enforcement arrived, they found 35-year-old James Paxton fleeing a house and running into a shed in the backyard. Paxton then barricaded himself inside a shed in the backyard telling police he had covered the shed and himself in gasoline.
At one point, while speaking to negotiators, Paxton allegedly threw a homemade explosive device out the window in the direction of deputies that failed to go off.
Eventually, he surrendered, unharmed according to deputies.
Paxton was then taken to Franciscan Health for evaluation. His charges are pending.
