WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - Candidates running for office this November are having to change their tactic because of social distancing. Alex Sabol is running for Indiana District 25 in the State House of Representatives.
Originally, his strategy was to door knock, talk to people one-one-one and host live events. Now he's having to switch to phone calls and Facebook live events. He said he is doing this switch to minimize contact with other people as health leaders continue to urge social distancing to spread the growth of coronavirus.
Sabol said he is still having meaningful conversations with constituents as he works to learn the issues that are important to them. He hopes to continue to reach them through technology.
"I'm having conversations on the phone, allowing them to ask questions using Facebook Live," he said. "It's actually an opportunity for us rather than a detriment."
Despite the current pandemic, he is hearing that people still have other concerns.
"I thought everyone would talk about the coronavirus, because I always ask people what's the number one issue your family is facing, what they've told me is education," he said. "That's the number one thing that's come up over and over again."
He said this pandemic is highlighting issues with affordable health care and workplace rights, things he is looking to champion at the statehouse.
Sabol will be hosting Facebook Live events every Wednesday at 7pm. Click here to get connected.
