TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) -- A resolution has been reached in the case of the two peacocks near Battle Ground.
Peacocks have roamed free on the property since the 1970s. Tippecanoe County Animal Control initially said the birds are a public nuisance and violate a county ordinance.
However, Tippecanoe County Sheriff Barry Richard stepped in.
Instead of issuing a citation, he wanted to resolve the matter with the property owners. Richard met with the owners Friday.
Tommi Perdue said they came up with the idea to put up signs, warning drivers about the peacocks.
"To let them know that there could be a bird crossing, or maybe just livestock in general, because any of you who have livestock know they have a tendancy to find their way out once in awhile," said Perdue. "The birds get to stay where they are and we get to watch them grow old."
Perdue said the signs have already been ordered.
She understands animal control had a job to do and wants to thank everyone who had a part in the positive outcome for the birds.
