TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)—The annual event was held at Meijer in West Lafayette on Saturday.

Families are paired with a cop to pick out some items for the holiday season.

This year 40 kids were served. The goal is to give back to at least 40 kids each year.

Beth Kidwell with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office said this is great way to brighten up a family's life during the holiday season.

"This is the time of year we all should be in the giving spirit. It's not necessarily about receiving gifts and getting to see that look on a child's face when they go through that lane with all of their goodies," said Kidwell."

This years donors were Nine Irish Brothers, Subway, Dunkin Donuts, Cafe Giorno, Meijer, Instant Copy, Centeir Bank, Purdue Federal Credit Union, Two Tulips and Lafayette Police Department.

Residents living in Aster Place voulnteered their time to help prepare for the event.
