MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) -- Crews are using boats to help neighbors evacuate their homes near Diamond Point in Monticello. Since early Wednesday morning there have been nearly a dozen water rescues.

The area is still under a flood warning and crews are urging people to evacuate while they still can. People affected said they're glad to be safe. But they say it's tough to see their homes under water.

Kristina Brambley had to evacuate her home in Monticello's Brandywine neighborhood home Wednesday morning.

"They put us in raft and they walked us up to safety," said Brambley.

She's only lived in this house for two years. She never imagined she'd see flooding like this.

"I was freaking out. I thought - we're stranded, we can't get out," said Brambley.

Brambley only had time to pack a small bag. She said it's sad to think about the belongings left behind.

"You don't realize what you have. To turn around and walk away from everything you worked so hard for," said Brambley.

Crews have made several water rescues just in the Diamond Point and Brandywine neighborhoods. Jack Roth is new to the area. The flooding caught him off guard.

"We moved up here from Houston so we're used to flooding in Houston," said Roth. "But I had no idea that I might find the same thing in Indiana."

"We've been advising people that the water will not crest on river in this area until probably sometime Saturday," said Fire Chief Galen Golan.

The Monticello Fire Department has been going door to door, urging people to get out while they can.

"A point will come that just because you can't get out doesn't make it an emergency to us," said Logan. "We're still responding on ambulance calls and fire calls while we're still trying to evacuate people out."

For the neighbors who live in the Diamond Point and Brandywine neighborhoods, it's now just a waiting game.

"We just need to see a real miracle and see God love and drain some of this water," said Roth.

Logan said the last time he saw flooding like this was back in 2008.
