September 9, 2 PM Weather Forecast Update

Two segments of heat, a cool-down, some severe risk & active tropics...

Lows this morning ran 51-55.

Highs today should reach 75-81.

Lows of 50-55 are expected tonight with some patchy shallow fog, especially near water & low-lying areas.

Highs of 78-85 are expected Friday with lots of sunshine, low humidity & a calm wind becoming south at 5-10 mph.

The weekend looks very warm to hot & dry with 87-91 Saturday with LOW HUMIDITY & 88-94 Sunday with higher humidity.  Heat indices Sunday will run 91-98.

Heat on the move eastward Friday-Saturday:

Monday & Tuesday look hot & rather humid with highs 90-95 with heat indices 93-100.

Projected temperatures on the afternoon of Monday, September 13:

Tropical system may make landfall in Texas & those remnants will likely move up through Mississippi to Tennessee, then Ohio & Pennsylvania early to mid-next week.  They will be pulled southeastward by our surface cold front pushing southeastward.

For us, with that front, Isolated to scattered storms (25-35%) are possible Tuesday evening-night to Wednesday (mainly before 1 p.m. Wednesday).

MARGINAL RISK of severe weather is possible (Level 1 of 5) for isolated severe storms.

The tropical remnants will intercept much moisture, so that is why I kept the rainfall coverage at 25-35%.

It will turn a bit cooler & less humid Wednesday with high near 84 & low Wednesday night near 60.

After 78-85 Thursday, we heat up again & the ridging dominates with above to well-above normal temperatures here.  The storms track will be the Northern Plains & southern Canada.

Afternoon temperatures Friday, September 17:

Tropics will be active with areas to watch for landfalling systems now to September 30:

1.  Texas Initially

2.  Florida, Carolinas, Bahamas

3.  Overall East Coast from Virginia to Maine

4.  Northern Mexico

Strong surface cold front should pass around September 20-21.

Storms are possible with SLIGHT RISK parameters suggested.  At first, the front looked more anafrontal with less severe risk, but it is looking more katafrontal now.  So, severe risk has increased.

Shot of much cooler air comes in for real taste of Fall!

Potentially near/record warmth could occur for a brief time in the October 7-14 time frame as above to well-above normal temperatures occur frequently in the first half of October.

Overall below normal rainfall trend is expected now to mid-October, unless we can really get a tropical system into our area or remnants tropical moisture in.
