MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) — The Twin Lakes Indians made back to back Sectional Championship appearances in 2018 and 2019.
Head Coach David McFadden said he wanted to make this year a breakout season. The Indians featured three seniors on their 2020 lineup.
Gabi Lane was the starting shortstop for all four years. Lane was a three sport athlete and hit .412 from the plate in 2019. She played in 73 games in her career. Lane plans on attending IU Kokomo in the fall to study Nursing.
Kaylie Stachelski played in the outfield. She racked up 30 runs and 19 RBI as a junior. Stachelski is headed to Terre Haute to study nursing at Indiana State.
Cassie Cannon pitched and played in the outfield. Cannon is a fitting last name for the junior whose cannon-like arm totaled a 3.19 ERA. She is headed to Indiana Tech to continue her softball career.
Coach McFadden was entering his first year at the helm in 2020, but has been an assistant in the program for the last five years. McFadden said this senior group was built differently because of their championship experience.
“This group of seniors played in five or six championship games in their three years,” said McFadden on Friday. “They were battle tested in that time.”
McFadden says the seniors on this year’s roster were role models to the underclassmen, and that he expects them to get far in life after graduation.
“The underclassmen looked up to them tremendously. When they talked you could see their eyes get big and they listened. These three I have zero doubts will be world leaders before it’s over,” said McFadden.
