LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Central Catholic softball was poised to have one of their most experienced lineups since 2017. Six seniors were listed on the 2020 CC roster in head coach Natalie Stevens’s second year in command. Stevens told us this senior bunch was going to be the answer for a struggling CC program.
Abby Croy played in right field and at 3rd, she’s headed to Terre Haute to study Athletic Training at Indiana State.
Anna Roetker played at 1st base. She’s a 4-year softball letter winner and plans to attend Purdue this fall in the finance program.
Cailyn Davis played in left field and spent time in the circle. She’s also headed to Purdue to study Animal Science with a concentration in Veterinary Medicine.
Jozee Evans played shortstop and pitched. Evans had the highest 2019 batting average of this year’s senior bunch. She plans on attending Butler University this fall, majoring in Biology on a Pre-Medicine track.
Maddy Jaynes played in the outfield. She’ll be at Catawba College in North Carolina this fall majoring in Environmental Science.
Lezly Cordero who was set to make her softball debut this spring. She is undecided on her college decision.
Coach Stevens said it was the seniors' work ethic as multi-sport athletes that made this group so special. Stevens says the group will be tough to replace, but she’s confident they’ll still be a positive influence on the program after graduation
“It's hard to replace seniors. I mean, 6 seniors...that's huge. That's almost every position that we have out here. But, our seniors have always stepped up,” said Stevens. "They're still around, they're still active with us after the season's over so I know those seniors will come back around.”
Stevens said these seniors have left a lasting impression on the younger members of the team.
“They're always working hard and they push our younger and underclassmen to work hard. What they've instilled will continue with our underclassmen. It will push us to the 2021 season.”
