LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Craig DeVault duets as Central Catholic's girls basketball coach and girls tennis coach. DeVault had the opportunity to coach the class of 2020 on the basketball court, but not his tennis team this spring. The Knights featured two seniors on the roster this spring.
Annabelle Davis was a three year varsity player on the singles side for DeVault. Davis was scheduled to move up to two singles this season. She will be attending Purdue in the fall.
Ellen Cortez is other senior on the roster. Cortez starred in a major leadership role within the program. She will also stay in town and attend Purdue this fall.
Coach Devault says this is one power duo he won't forget.
"Those two, if you combine them, they would be the perfect tennis player you would have. You got a motivation person that's always talking, then you got a quiet person in Annabelle but just plays the game," said DeVault. "You put them together you would have one excellent tennis player with the attitude the athleticism. They know what they are leaving behind and what we need to do as younger girls to follow in their footsteps."
