LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Several first-year head coaches across the Greater Lafayette area saw their first spring season come to an end before it even started. Pat Bayley is one of those leaders. Bayley won't ever get a shot to coach the class of 2020.
The Knights featured three seniors entering their final golf seasons.
Patrick Gothard played all four of his high school seasons for the Knights. Gothard plans on attending IU Bloomington in the fall with a focus in Business.
Nate Webb was entering his first year with the Knights. While Webb never had the opportunity to play golf at CC, he excelled on the basketball court, and will play collegiately at Franklin College.
Finally Peter Brown was also a four year golfer at CC. He's headed to Xavier University in Cincinnati to study finance and accounting.
These three individuals leave behind an outstanding work ethic, and their coach utilized an appropriate golf analogy about the 2020 season that never was.
"I think it's going to be the work ethic, I think it's going to be the fact that school comes first, and they know it," said Bayley.
"The seniors make sure of that. I think our kids watch what those kids do and they pay attention to them. That's what I always tell them, watch what the older guys do because that's what you're going to be in a couple of years, and I think they aspire to be that."
"The hardest part for me, is it's kind of like that put that stops one-inch short and just doesn't quite fall in, I kind of liked to see this thing just fall in, and we didn't get to do it."
