WASHINGTON, D.C. (WLFI) — U.S. Senator for Indiana Todd Young has some big goals he wants to see accomplished before the New Year.
The Republican Senator shared his wish list with News 18. It includes passing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement and raising the legal smoking and vaping age.
The one with the most immediate concern to Young is the USMCA. It would replace the North American Free Trade Agreement, also known as NAFTA.
Young said passing it would keep the U.S. to continue being part of the global supply chain. That's something he says is crucial for the American people.
"If we interrupt those trading relationships people are going to lose jobs, their wages will go down and their circumstances will certainly deteriorate," he said.
Young said the number of middle school students using tobacco increases 30 percent annually. That number increases by 80 percent in high school students.
He wants to see the legal age raised from 18 to 21.
"Ninety-five percent of adult smokers begin before age 21," said Young. "So it's time we protect our young people."
Young's wish list also includes fully funding the military.
