Ind. (WLFI) — A semi driver was formally charged for an I-65 crash that killed three people from Lebanon.
Investigators said his semi rammed into eight vehicles on Sunday near the Zionsville exit on January 5.
On Tuesday, Matthew Small of Michigan was charged with three felony counts of reckless homicide.
Small says he looked down to set down his coffee mug and ran into slowing traffic.
19-year old Kaylee Kirk, 21-year old Mariah Tomey and 1-year old Hadley Tomey all died in the crash.
Fourteen others were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office says the investigation into the crash could take up to six months to complete.
