LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)-If you got gas at Sams Club in Lafayette on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week and are having car issues, you aren't alone. Sam's Club sent out a statement addressing the issues customers say they have been having, you can see that statement below.
"Our monitoring system did report an issue for a short window on Wednesday, February 24. The fueling station, due to addressing the issue, was left with premium gas only. We then chose to suspend the operation of the entire station until we could fully serve members. We anticipate the station will be fully opening back up shortly. We are able to identify the members that were potentially affected and will work directly with those members to make the situation right."
One person who is now having trouble with their car because of the situation is Lanna Freestone. She got gas from the Sams Club in Lafayette Tuesday evening. She drove home to Frankfort and didn't notice any issues right away. When she started her car up the next morning she could tell there was something wrong. By the time she made it to Lafayette for work, the issues with her car got worse. Then on her way home she wasn't sure if she was going to make it without her car breaking down.
"On my way home I wasn't even sure I was going to make it, my car was really chugging and jerking," said Freestone. "I couldn't figure out why a car that was perfectly fine one moment the next minute was totally acting up on me."
Freestone did make it home safely, but after consulting with a friend about the car issues she had been having, they said they heard that Sams Club allegedly had water in its gas. When she went to the store to ask if the rumors were true she says a sales associate she talked to told her they were aware of the situation.
Freestone is unsure how much her car repairs will cost but added that Sams Club has agreed to pay for any damages the gas pumping station has caused. Sams Club did not go into detail about what issues their gas station was experiencing. As of Friday evening, a sign was posted at the gas station saying "temporarily closed sorry for the inconvenience." Earlier today it appeared that crews were on the scene trying to fix the situation.
