WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)—The Swedish aerospace and defense company SAAB opened its new facility in West Lafayette. The facility represents a major step in SAAB's global expansion.
Governor Holcoomb and Mitch Daniels were in attendance and spoke at the event. This facility will be the site for domestic production of SAAB's A-F-T airframe section for the US air force's T-7A Red Hawk trainer program.
It will also support research and development in autonomy, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing. Purdue President Mitch Daniels said this facility is great for the city and the university.
"A great development like this begins to build on its own momentum as the success of one company convinces the next that it might be a good venue for them," said Daniels. "As the living environment gets bigger and more bustling and more attractive."
By 20-27 SAAB expects to hire up to 300 employees for the facility including assemblers, engineers, system administrators and more.
