WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Hundreds of people prepared for all the extra calories this morning by running a race.
The annual Lafayette Urban Ministry Turkey Trot drew about 400 runners. The course took them through the Celery Bog Nature Area in West Lafayette. Some runners took it seriously, while others took it easy with their kids and pets.
No matter your skilll level, people say it's all about having fun with family.
"People are trying to do it across the generations. It's short enough to walk it. You can jog it. You can push a stroller or walk your dog. The whole family can do it if they wanted to," racer Dee Dekeyser said.
Thanksgiving is the most popular running day of the year. Across the country, it's estimated more than one-million people will cross the finish line today. That is a new record.
