LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The 'Round the Fountain Art Fair Committee announced Thursday that the 2020 'Round the Fountain Art Fair has been canceled. According to a released statement, After "painstaking deliberation", with foremost concern for the health and safety of artists, art patrons, community partners, the state and nation, the 'Round the Fountain Art Fair Committee has canceled the annual art fair.
The fair was scheduled for Saturday, May 23, and has been held annually since 1973.
"Under the circumstances and given the unprecedented uncertainties we face, we felt it was the only responsible and safe decision we could make on behalf of all parties concerned," said Maggie Smith, chairperson of 'Round the Fountain Art Fair Committee. "We want to thank everyone who has made our nationally recognized fine art fair a successful, celebratory community tradition for almost 50 years. We truly appreciate your understanding and your continued participation, support, loyalty, and attendance in the future. In the meantime, on behalf of the 'Round the Fountain Art Fair Committee, we urge everyone to take care of themselves and their families and to stay safe, practice social distancing, and stay healthy."
For more than 45 years, proceeds from the fair have funded many beneficiaries, including support for fine arts education in the five area high schools, the Tippecanoe Arts Federation (TAF) after-hours arts program, courthouse restoration.
