TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)—Robbie Tovar is adding his name to the democratic ticket for Tippecanoe County Council at large.
He announced his candidacy at the democratic headquarters this week.
Tovar currently works as the Organizer Rep for the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades.
He said people have encouraged him for many years to run for county council. Tovar moved from Texas to Lafayette in the seventies.
He's been in the Greater Lafayette community ever since. He said he wants to focus on community outreach and education.
Tovar said his campaign will center around his love for people and the future of the community.
"I am the people's champion," said Tovar. "You know, I'm putting people before politics. I am not a politician. I'm the people's champ."
