WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Richard A. Wachs Aquatics Center at West Lafayette Jr/Sr High School is now open for public use.
The pool originally opened for high school competition back in December and is now open for adults and younger children. Swimming programs are being offered for children ages eight through 12, and the programs are open to the public.
Social distancing is required around the pool and on the pool deck, and one swimmer is permitted in a lane at a time.
Lessons are also being conducted this week with at least six feet of distance between swim instructors and students.
Aquatics director Chris Klinge said the mission is to safely provide an outlet for those passionate about being in the pool.
"We have social distancing markers up all over the pool," said Klinge.
"People are keeping their space, and you know I knew it was a need that was not being filled right now and the people that want to lap swim are willing to do what it takes so they can do it safely."
The Pool is open for public hours Monday through Friday. You can sign up for pool times on these days by emailing Klinge at email@example.com
