TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A Rensselaer teen is in police custody after fleeing from Tippecanoe County Sheriff on Thursday. According to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, a deputy pulled over a car for speeding on 500 S just west of US 231 for speeding. After talking to the two occupants in the car, the male drive, 19-year-old Joshua C. Rich of Rensselaer, put the vehicle in drive and fled.
The deputy pursued the driver through the Raineybrook subdivision to county road 400 S. The vehicle then traveled through the back yards of homes under construction and before coming to a stop. Rich fled on foot to the north behind a home then got into a truck and attempted to steal it, but the truck stalled and would not restart. Rich then fled on foot again to the west. After approximately an hour of searching, deputies found the suspect hiding in an outside wood burner a few houses to the west.
Rich was arrested on the following charges:
- Felony resisting with a vehicle
- Misdemeanor resisting
- Auto theft
- False Informing
- 6 warrants through Jasper County
